THE 2ND ANNIVERSARY OF PA ARC. MICHAEL OLUTUSEN ONAFOWOKAN MEMORIAL LECTURE

On the 1st of April, our Founder’s Day, I had the honour of attending the 2nd anniversary of the Pa Michael Olutusen Onafowokan Memorial Lecture, hosted by the Ikorodu Branch of the NIA Lagos State Chapter. Alongside prominent Architects such as Past President Olubukunola Ejiwunmi FNIA, PPNIA; Arc. David Majekodunmi FNIA, Chair NIA Lagos State Chapter; Arc Patience Okonta FNIA, Arc Biodun Fatuyi, Vice Chair Lagos; Arc Bisi Sulu-Olumide FNIA; Arc. Titilayo Adeleye FNIA; Arc. Yinka Williams; and Arc. Helen Bibinu amongst others. We commemorate the life and contributions of the late Pa Onafowokan, the Pioneer President of the Nigerian Institute of Architects.

In my address, I emphasized the enduring legacy of Pa Onafowokan and the significance of the lecture’s theme, “The Emergence of Ikorodu Mega City, Effects of 4th Mainland Bridge and Other Infrastructural Projects.” I commended the Ikorodu Branch for their dedication to fostering dialogue and advocacy on urban development challenges, highlighting the importance of preserving Architectural heritage and advancing the profession.

The event which was very well attended by dignitaries like the Oba of Ikorodu and other prominent indigenes of Ikorodu, served as a platform for knowledge sharing and collaboration, reflecting Pa Onafowokan’s profound influence on the Architectural landscape of Nigeria. I expressed gratitude to the Chairman, Executive Committee and members of the Ikorodu Branch for their commitment to excellence and innovation in Architecture.

As President, I celebrate the success of the memorial lecture and look forward to continued collaborations aimed at promoting Architectural excellence and shaping sustainable urban environments.
