B-R-E-A-K-I-N-G:Reports are emerging of unauthorized access to the Rivers Local Government Elections Strong Room by certain law enforcement personnel, allegedly for the theft of sensitive materials.

Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, successfully thwarted an attempt by the Nigerian Police, under the leadership of the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations), to assume control of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) at 1 AM on Friday, 4th October, 2024.

Policemen purportedly attempted to infiltrate the Commission’s gates and secure facility to unlawfully obtain sensitive electoral materials earmarked for Saturday’s local government election in the State.

Alert security officials detected and disrupted the plot, promptly notifying Commission principals and government authorities, who subsequently informed the Governor

The Governor promptly spearheaded a delegation comprising government officials, National Assembly and State House of Assembly lawmakers, prominent political stakeholders, and other key leaders to inspect the facility.
