National Assembly Acknowledges Falana’s Letter

The Office of President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio has acknowledged the letter written by foremost human rights lawyer, Mr. Femi Falana (SAN), affirming the legality of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Falana had written the National Assembly in response to an earlier letter written by his professional colleague, Dr. Olisa Agbakoba, SAN, wherein he labelled the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) as an illegal body that should be scrapped.

But, Falana holds a contrary view with the support of several statutory and judicial authorities.
In the letter, which was acknowledged by the Office of President of the Senate with an official stamp, dated October 18, 2024, Mr. Falana said Dr. Agbakoba did not cite any authority in his letter, however, according to Falana, who relied and referenced a lot of Supreme Court and Appeal Court cases, the Supreme Court had always supported the rights and constitutionality of the EFCC and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC)
The acknowledgment copy of the letter is attached.
