Professor Ogunsola gave the commendation when the victorious team of Tomiwa Akingbade, Pelumi Erota, Aishat Adigun, Francis Ogundokun, Peace Nnachi, and Pamela Okoye, led by their Faculty Adviser, Dr. Peter Amah presented the coveted trophy to the University Management team on Monday, May 13, 2024, amidst a heroic welcome.

It was a proud moment for the University Management and students as the Vice Chancellor praised the team’s hard work, dedication, and commitment to excellence. She emphasized the importance of the CFA Institute Research Challenge in developing the students’ research and analytical skills.

According to her, “Your achievement further typifies what we do at the University of Lagos and so we are proud of what you have achieved as students who not only won but also have engraved their names in Gold having recorded the feat for the fifth time in a row. You were determined. We salute your resilience. You lifted our spirits, and you made us proud and happy as the institution of Choice in Nigeria. You have done a great job, and I am very proud of you”.

The University helmswoman also acknowledged the tireless efforts of the team’s Faculty Adviser, Dr. Peter Amah. While applauding Dr. Amah’s sagacity and resilience, Professor Ogunsola described him as a true role model who represents the ideal of a good mentor and teacher.

Her words, “Your dedication to your students is evident in the outstanding results they have achieved. This achievement is not just a victory for the students; it is a victory for the entire University of Lagos community. It demonstrates our commitment to academic excellence, our passion for innovation, and our determination to produce graduates who can compete at the highest level”.

Earlier in his presentation of the team to the institution’s leadership, Dr. Amah highlighted the team’s exceptional performance as the competition was keenly contested. He rated the
team as the best since he became responsible for UNILAG students participating in the competition.

His words “This year, the competition witnessed the participation of twenty-four (24) universities in Nigeria, embarking on a demanding research journey that spanned five months. Let me state that the University of Lagos distinguished itself by clinching the top spot, which reaffirms the institution’s dominance in finance and investment research”.

Dr. Amah explained that beyond the competition in Nigeria, the UNILAG contingent was among the last four teams at the CFA Challenge for Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. He added that the team did not make it to the final round due to issues out of their control.

According to him, despite not qualifying for the final round, the team’s achievement is a testament to the university’s excellence in finance and research especially as this is the first time they will reach the regional finals.
